“Smart Surface Sdn Bhd” (Sdn Bhd means Limited Liability Company) is a new surface computing provider specialized in computer Natural User Interfaces (NUI) where traditional Input/Output elements are replaced by intuitive everyday objects. Instead of a keyboard, mouse and screen, users interact directly with our SmartSurface.  SmartSurface can take any flat form imaginable—from coffee tables to smart walls. SmartSurface can understand and interpret human gestures through multi touches and hand postures.

WHERE

We are registered in Malaysia, and after starting up in the strategic Taipan Business Center, we moved nearer to Kuala Lumpur to Cyberjaya (Cyber City); a multimedia super corridor with green environment and advanced physical infrastructure and cutting-edge communications infostructure.

We chose Malaysia because of its strategic place in Asia, its strong connections to Asian, North American and Middle Eastern markets, and its great incentives for IT related businesses. Not to mention the friendliness of its people and its nice climate all year round. We have been awarded in Sep. 2009 the MSC (Multimedia Super Corridor) status giving us additional financial incentives and tax exemptions.

HOW DID IT ALL START?

The establishment of Smart Surface is an exemplary model of the way in which technology is expanding our ability to interact with one another.  We are ushering in the era of humanization where initiatives are led not by global and multi-national big corporations, rather by individuals around the world who interact freely through Internet.

We are a group of enthusiastic people who belong to different nationalities, live in various places away from our home countries, and who are brought together by sharing one common vision—to make every surface a SmartSurface!
After several blog entries, emails, YouTube posts, Facebook investigation, as well as a few telephone calls back and forth, We hammered out our vision and its details over several planning sessions in Kuala Lumpur street cafes and restaurants. At the peak of the 2008-2009 Financial Crisis where everyone else was holding back from investment and ventures, we decided to ACT—we put together our know-how and savings to start-up our company and build our SmartSurface.

OUR VISION

Our vision is nothing short of ubiquitous computing.  We see computers integrated to our desktop, on our walls, in fact on every surface imaginable.  As our communication needs change, computers need to evolve to meet that change.  With SmartSurface, we have reformulated the very concept of computing itself.  We can now interact directly and manipulate information manually.  We bring the human touch to computers!

Most importantly, by being part of our normal day-to-day life, computers will not hinder our human communication and interaction the way today’s computers do. On the contrary SmartSurface will provide us space to talk and interact with other people instead of hiding behind screens and keyboards.
